Jen is one of the salon owners over at Onyx & Opal in Hollywood Park, Texas, and we caught up with her so she could let us in on how her logo rebranding went with the team. Here’s her story!

Tell me about your journey as a business owner.

I’ve been in the industry for 21 years, and the first 10 were pretty exclusively in men’s chain salons. When I had my son, I decided to finally go independent. After taking some time off to spend with my little one, I started to rent a booth in my friend’s salon. I stayed there for about three years until I decided to open up my own space in the Sola Salon boutiques. I’ve been at Sola for eight and a half years now & it’s been going great!

How did you end up choosing Vagaro for your business software?

Well, Sola has a list of recommended providers, and Vagaro was listed as a trusted software source. I checked out what Vagaro had to offer and I really liked all of the different features that would be helpful for running my business. Namely, the online booking & text reminders, but the credit card processing was a huge one for me. You can do everything from one place, so I really liked the all-in-one aspect of it.

Why did you choose to have a logo designed?

I was in the middle of merging my existing salon business with a friend who is also at Sola, so together, it wasn’t going to be our individual names anymore. We needed something that matched us both. We weren’t exactly sure where to start, so we looked at a couple different design services out there. They either charged a huge fee or wanted to charge an annual fee for webpage design & hosting, as well as additional design costs for other things, like a logo. Then we realized: Our software offers this already! We looked into Vagaro’s design services, what they could do for us, and it was just so much more comprehensive, and at a fraction of the cost that we were being quoted by other platforms.

How was the process for you? Anything you liked in particular about how it went?

It was so awesome! I loved how simple and easy it was! The back & forth communication was really friendly & helpful. I brainstormed some ideas with my business partner and we ultimately landed on the idea of Onyx & Opal. She’s Onyx, sort of a darker, mysterious vibe, and I’m Opal, bright & colorful—together, we’re Onyx & Opal! We worked with Maria from Vagaro’s Design Services Team, and I found her to be so helpful, especially with an initial inquiry I had. She really helped streamline our thoughts and get the ball rolling. We went through two rounds of proofs, which she designed according to our given specs & unique vision, and she absolutely brought it to life for us.

Would you recommend Vagaro’s Design Services?

Oh, yes! I’d do it again for myself or any other business we decide to open in the future! I loved the process, and now we have a logo that represents who we both are, and what our business brand is, perfectly. I recommend Vagaro’s Design Services to everybody I know who owns their own business!
