EMV and Dipping
What is a “dip”, anyway? The process of inserting an EMV chip card instead of swiping it is called a “dip,” because you’re “dipping” your card into the reader. Credit card “dips” take a little longer to process because each dip creates a unique code for each authenticated transaction that can’t be re-used. This is called tokenization. Essentially, “dips” keep your financial information safer than a swipe transaction.
Why Is One-Dip Splitting Important?
When to Use One Dip Split
Here are some situations where you might want to use one-dip splitting. Remember, this feature is flexible. No matter how you need to split up a payment at checkout, you’ll be ready!
How to Split Payment in a Salon or Barbershop
-
Multiple services provided by different professionals. For example, a haircut performed by Jane with a brow wax performed by Lisa, or a men’s haircut performed by Billy with a hot shave performed by Jake. Without splitting, these providers would have to keep track of the cost of their services to separate payments later or ask the client to process their card twice. Splitting allows you to process payment for both services at the same time, automatically separating payment into the individual accounts of both service providers.
-
Service/s plus product/s. For example, Lisa is a booth renter who performs the service, but sells her client products that belong to Flamingo Day Spa. Instead of processing two separate transactions (one for the service and one for the product), Lisa can combine the total for services and product and split them into multiple accounts.
One Dip Split in the Spa
- Multiple services provided by different professionals. For example, a client paying for a wax service with Anna, a facial with Barb, and a massage with George.
- Service/s plus product/s.
Split Payments in a Fitness Center or Gym
- Membership plus class. Clients can pay for their membership to the fitness facility at the same time as paying the fee for a specific class.
- Class plus added service, such as personal training or massage
- Personal training service/s plus product
- Trainer plus additional service or class, such as massage or Pilates class
Specialized Studio One Split Dip
- Yoga class plus massage
- Pilates class plus acupuncture
- Dance classes plus costume or recital registration fees

- Workshop plus product/s – Yoga workshop plus mat, barre plus toeless grip socks, etc.
