Women Entrepreneurs Continue to Flex, Scale & Grow in 2024

I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by strong female leaders. In fact, our Vagaro community is made up of 64% women who are business owners.

In 2024, the entrepreneurial landscape has witnessed an inspiring surge in women-led businesses, with a significant presence in the self-care industry. Among the myriad of platforms facilitating this growth, we continue to be a prominent ally for women entrepreneurs.

My opinion in the realm of female entrepreneurship is that it is evident that women possess unique qualities that not only drive success but also reshape the business landscape. As a woman myself, I may have some bias, but I have also seen it firsthand.

Historically, women in business have experienced many challenges. At present, we are starting to see more and more improvement. Some of those areas are:

• Access to Funding: Historically, women have encountered difficulties accessing capital to start and grow their businesses. Discriminatory lending practices and biases against female entrepreneurs have hindered their access to traditional financing options. However, women entrepreneurs are now actively seeking alternative sources of funding, such as angel investors, venture capital firms focused on diversity, crowdfunding platforms, and specialized loans tailored to women-owned businesses.

• Gender Bias & Stereotypes: Women have often faced gender bias and stereotypes in the business world, leading to doubts about their abilities as leaders and decision-makers. However, women entrepreneurs are challenging these stereotypes by demonstrating their competence, resilience, and innovative thinking. They are asserting themselves as capable leaders, breaking down barriers, and paving the way for future generations of women in entrepreneurship.
• Limited Access to Networks & Mentorship: Access to professional networks and mentorship opportunities have been limited for women compared to their male counterparts. This lack of access has hindered their ability to seek guidance, build relationships, and access valuable resources. However, women entrepreneurs are now actively seeking out mentorship and networking opportunities through women-focused business organizations, online communities, and mentorship programs. These networks provide support, guidance, and valuable connections to help women entrepreneurs succeed.
• Work-Life Balance: Balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with family responsibilities has been a significant challenge for many women, especially given the fact that it’s women, still, who carry most of the load for childcare and household chores . Juggling multiple roles and responsibilities can lead to burnout and stress, impacting both personal and professional well-being. However, women entrepreneurs are now prioritizing self-care, setting boundaries, and implementing strategies to achieve a better work-life balance. They are embracing flexibility, delegating tasks, and seeking support from family, friends, and employees to manage their responsibilities effectively.
• Lack of Representation & Role Models: Historically, women have lacked representation and visibility in the business world, making it challenging for aspiring female entrepreneurs to envision themselves as successful business leaders. However, women entrepreneurs are now actively working to increase their visibility and representation in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. They’re sharing their stories, successes, and challenges, serving as role models and mentors for aspiring women entrepreneurs. By amplifying their voices and experiences, these women are inspiring future generations to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams.

While we continue to navigate these challenges, we are becoming better equipped to discover opportunities and support each other. Female leaders and entrepreneurs must make the time and effort to nurture and help other women find their path any way they can. Women entrepreneurs bring a distinctive blend of qualities to the table, catalyzing their businesses' growth and success. One key attribute that sets them apart is their innate ability to lead with a balance of grit and nurturing qualities. Historically underestimated, women have developed resilience that fuels their determination to succeed. This blend of tenacity and empathy enables them to bring out the best in their teams, fostering a collaborative environment where talent thrives.
